Can anyone translate this? I think its Japanese, "Nu me oh oh ren gay kyo." Thanks.?

It's written as "南無妙法蓮華経" in kanji and called "daimoku" (題目). Nichiren Buddhists pray in front of a Buddhist altar saying it repeatedly. Most of the Japanese including me don't know what it means.

i believe it is a buddist chant.
