in my state it is 12. i believe it varies according to state though.

i find that it is hard to go up to 12 years old at a daycare. very hard to find something to occupy school age children when you are dealing with the more frequent demands of younger children. i suggest doing preschool and then in the summer have your daycare up to age 5 or 6 - children just going into first grade.

just a thought! :) SD

It varies from state to state, In California and New York it is 9 years but they can't be alone for extended periods of time, not more than a couple of hours. Some states have 12 other's have 13-15 check with YOUR state to be certain.

in California there is no age limit for a child to be left home by themselves so i guess you would just have decide that one on your own,a few things to think about is the child responsible enough to stay home by themselves, will the child let strangers in the house ,will the child burn the house down, does the child know how to get in the kitchen and get something to eat without the help of an adult.all these things and more should be considered when you think about it .

There isn't one in most states. The states of Illinois (14) and Maryland (8) are the only states I've heard of having these type of laws.

If you live in the U.S., it depends on which state you are living in. In the sources I have enclosed a link to a website where you can check state laws.
