He is a bit constipated, but still poops about once a day. I just have not seen him hike his leg for 2 days. He is drinking water - not massive quantities, but some. He is not acting weird or anything. I was just wondering as I am new to owning a small dog.

He only goes out on a leash. He was peeing 2 -3 times a day up until 2 days ago.

These little guys are prone to bladder stones. If you have any doubt at all that he is not urinating normally, you should see your vet immediately. Urinary obstructions are life threatening. When you take him out, try to get a look and see if he is urinating. If he starts showing other problems like not eating, vomiting, or acting weird, straining to urinate and not passing urine, you definitely need to see the vet.

I am not a vet so really am not certain, however am familiar with 'people' urology. I would feel his belly and see if it is distended (pushed out) and hard as this could indicate he is retaining fluid. There are several reasons this can happen. Does he act and behave healthy? Does he have a fever (hot nose)? You need to stay at home and 'observe' him for a while ,constantly... and take him only on leash outside so you do not miss a thing. You must see him pee. If he pees when he poops you will see it (some male dogs don't always do the leg lift thing and sort of do a sqat and go... you must watch closely for the pee as if he is in urinary retenion (no pee) he could become very sick and die as poisons will go through his blood stream and his organs will begin to fail. If there is no peeing going on you need to take him to vet asap or 1st thing in morn at very latest...

More than likely he is just fine although your job now , and the vet if necessary, is to make certain of that.

PLEASE: let us know how he is doing. TY

Make sure you are positive he is not peeing. If he isn't he could have some kind of bladder infection or bladder crystals or stones and not being able to pee is very bad for him, he could get really sick. And if it went on long enough he could die! Take him to the vet if you think this might be the case.

If he hasn't gone for a couple of days, he's probably has stones, or bladder infection. He will be in a lot of pain if it doesn't clear up. He will start throwing up, quit eating and run a fever. If he's constipated, and keeps straining, you will eventually see blood in his stools. Just take the poor guy to the vet, so he doesn't suffer.

Its a know fact that dogs cannot urinate while they are having a bowel movement. You might have to increase his sodium intake, so that he will urinate more often. He might have a urinary tract infection, whice requires anti-biotics. Go to your local vet, and have him extract some urine for testing. His PH level might be very high, which can cause crystals. This is very painful for dogs and cats.

Not all male dogs 'hikes' their leg. I'm sure you are just missing it. If you are really concerned, watch him like a hawk and follow him. If he were to be having issues with urinating, you want him to be seen by a vet ASAP.

I am sure he is peeing especially if he is drinking....but if he is constipated and you are worried, why not take him to the Vets for a checkup to be on the safe side

Nope, different muscles. The next time you are on the toilet, trying doing both. The only way to do it is very painfully.
