The meat in a hot dog is already 100% cooked, so as noted in a previous answer, you can eat it cold. Heating it is only a personal preference. And when it comes to heating a hot dog, I prefer it either grilled or fried in a pan on the stove. If frying it in the house, put a little bit of butter in the pan over medium-high heat, let it melt 'til it sizzles, then put in the hot dog. As each side browns, turn it until it's evenly browned and slightly crisped. Mmm, yummy!

Bring water to a boil, add dogs, cover, remove from heat, let stand for 5 minutes. So says the Hebrew National folks, who answer to a higher authority.

I usually boil for about five minutes for a thawed hot dog, a little longer for a frozen one. When the hot dog is "done" or heated through, it will be a little limp when you put a fork into it. Thats how I tell if it is done.

Put water in a pot, set on stove, turn heat to high, add hot dog. When it boils its done. Hot dogs can be eaten cold as they are not "raw". They just need to be heated through.

First bring the water to a boil, then put the hotdog in and I wait until there is water splashing and spitting everywhere.
