I had a digital camera that I didn't pay much for a few years ago, and for Christmas I bought a new one, and paid a lot of money for, but it still consumes batteries like mad.

Am I using the wrong type of battery, or is this a problem with all digital cameras ?

you should only really use lithium batteries in high power devices like a digital camera - I brought some Energizer Lithium like 4 months ago and they are still working

Digital cameras devour batteries. You should make sure to use the special ones for High tech electrical stuff(I can't remember what they are called now) all battery companies make them but if you use regular batteries you will make your camera wear out faster and could possible destroy your warranty. It is possible to get battery packs for them go to the store you bought your camera at and ask about them. You can make your battery last longer by not using the view screen to take pictures or to check and show people what you have taken pics of. Also make sure to download pics promptly as it will help make your memory stick last longer.

I use the new lithium batteries and I took 200 pics on my last trip and they are still in use. I bought a 12 pack at BJ's wholesale club for $18 dollars. That way i can take an extra set and not have to worry about a charger. The batteries are reg AA and I've put them in everything!

I suggest you buy some rechargable batteries. Most digital cameras go through alkalines (even those special made for electronics batteries) extremely quickly. You can get a good set of rechargables and charger from walgreens, target etc.

Regardless of the type of batteries you use (Lithium, Alkaline, etc.), you use up the very most battery power if you always keep the LCD monitor turned on. If you use the optical viewfinder when you are taking pictures instead of the LCD monitor, you will be saving a lot of battery power (and money).

Agree... use the Energizer Lithium batteries. They last and last. I bought mine at Christmas, took tons of pictures and have even left my camera on. It is now January 17th and they are still going strong. It is worth the extra $$.
