As I understand it from my many friends in the US, over there they drink iced tea rather than UK style tea.

Usual process for tea here is put tea bags in a cup or a mug (1 per mug) or a teapot (maximum 2 tea bags), boil kettle, pour water on, leave to brew for a few minutes.
When ready, squeeze tea bag and dispose of it, add milk & sugar to taste (no more than 4 teaspoons, though most people just have 1 or 2, I prefer 3 sugars).
Some people when making it in a teapot add the milk to the cup before pouring the tea out of the pot.

The Popular brands here are:

Twinings (English Breakfast, Earl Grey + now "Twinings Everyday Tea - all of which I believe are available over in the US)

The British usually put tea bags in a small tea Pot, add boiling water, let it sit until it's brewed, then pour into the cup. Some add up to a half cup milk, some add white sugar. The British often use brown sugar and maybe cream with coffee. PG Tips & Tetley are the most popular. Just like Americans, some like it strong and some don't.

Cheers!

I know this is an old article, but must clear up a myth about what us Americans drink for tea. We don't prefer iced tea to hot tea. We actually drink both. If it's hot outside, we drink iced tea, but that's a preference. Hot tea is just as popular as iced tea. As to what kind, it depends on the person. Some use tea bags. Some prefer loose tea. Both are available and it depends on the person.

No actually they make fun of us for using tea bags. What they use is a tea ball that they put loose leaf tea in and let that steep to their individual desired taste. As to what brand sells the best in the U.K. you'd have to look that up on the net.

Well, seeing as how they drink their beer at room temperature, one might assume they drink their tea the same way, or maybe with one ice cube.
