The drivers seat?
Seriously, it would depend on what track you are going to. Different tracks have different shapes and therefore, different viewing areas.

I have been to a handful or races. I have been to Cup races at Talladega, Bristol, Indy and Martinsville. At Talladega, we sat about 60 rows up on the front stretch, about 100 yards before the start finish line. (Basically at the end of pit road.) You could see the cars go all the way around the track, although only the tops on the back stretch. All in all, they were great seats. At Bristol and Martinsville, as long as you are about 30 rows or more up, you can see everything. At Indy, we were in Turn 3 and it was terrible. You could see the cars come out of 2 and go onto the beginning of the front stretch. We left after 40 laps.
Also have been to a couple Busch races at Kentucky and Nashville. Again, if you are up high enough, you can see the entire track.
So the key to having a good seat is the height of the seat. Unlike other sporting events, you want to be in the "nosebleeds", because that is where you see the action.
Also, it is nice to afford chairbacks if you can. They make the experience a hundred times better!
See you at Talladega in the Spring!

It depends on what track you are at. I've been to Bristol & Talladega. At Talladega you want to sit as high as possible to see as much as possible. At Bristol, I sat about 2/3's of the way up and those were great seats. Bristol being a small track, almost any seat is a good seat.
But you see the best at home on TV, but it's quite an experience to actually be at a race.
I think it'd be neat to have a pit pass and be allowed to sit there out of the way as the cars come in.

Bristol-We sit in row 60 in turn 1. We can see the entire track without moving our heads. Can see the front pits, but not the back.
Michigan-Between turns 3 and 4. Best view of the crashes.

victory lane club, the lower you are you only see what is in front of you, the higher up at a race you get to sit, the more you can see.

High up (so you can see the whole track) across from the pits (you don't want to miss seeing the pit stops). Either near the exit of the last turn or the entrance to the first one.

My favorite is Turn 4, about halfway up. That's where the engines rev up for restarts, it's also where some of the best and hardest racing is found. On a mile-and-a-half track like Texas or Chicagoland you can see the entire track from there, too. If you're close to the fence, it also means you can get a crossbreeze if it's hot out... :)
