Ibuprofen is a muscle relaxer, you need a pain reliever, take tylenol and put some Aloe Vera gel directly on the sunburn.
Here are some other ideas:

Remember sunburn is still a burn, treat it as such and use sunscreen next time!

Ibuprofen (aka Advil) is an anti-inflamitory. Acetaminiphin (aka Tylonol) is a pain reliever. For pure pain, either will do. However, since it is a sun burn, the cells in your skin have expanded or become inflamed, so the Advil type medication may offer more relief.
Vinager applied to the skin can help with the sting, and you will smell like a giant salad. Aloe vera (pure aloe, not lotion with aloe) is your best bet. It will help sooth the skin and keep it moist. Cold water, creams, butter, etc is not suggested. If it's a bad burn and you can swing it, try to avoid a shower for a couple of days (this can accelerate blistering and peeling).
In the future, cover up and use sun screen!! Skin cancer is not what you are shooting for, if it's a tan you are wanting, use bronzers for a tanned look instead of the sun.

Acetaminophen helps with pain and fever, Ibuprophen helps with pain, fever, and inflammation. I would say the most sensible one would be Ibuprophen, however, I've never had much success reducing sunburn pain with an oral medication short of Vicodin or Tylenol 3. For me, a topical remedy works best, like Bactine spray, or eucalyptus. What also helps is to rub an oil based lotion into the burn, and cover it with a room temp wet wash cloth. The washcloth cools it down so the stinging stops, and the oil based lotion (like Johnson & Johnson's creamy baby oil) protects the skin. Stay out of cool breezes...goose bumps cause even more pain.
Good luck, sunburns suck.

Advil is an anit-inflammatory, it will provide some relief. You should really use ice or cold water, solar cain or something like it and aloe vera or vitamin E gel. If its BAD, go to the hospital.

This may sound weird, and you will smell like an onion, but it does work, and I do it when I get sun burnt. Take a whole onion, cut it in half, and rub it on your burn. The heat from the sun burn will cook the onion.
