hi, my two cats mittens and mr. snickers used to be bff, but lately i think they're trying to kill each other!!! just last night i heard them both yowling and when i went to check what was the matter, i saw mr. snickers trying to climb on top of mittens!!!!! i yelled at him to leave alone but they both ignored me until i hit them with a broom. plus, i think something is wrong with mittens because she smells kind of funny lately. why do they hate each other all of a sudden?!??

one question are your cats fixed
if not mittens might be in heat, for the fact that cats fighting will stop before you hit them with a broom. all i have to do is stomp a foot, or yell at them.
and if mittens is in heat she might be expecting by now.

I hope you are kidding about hitting the cats with a broom! Never hit a cat for discipline or punishment - that only teaches them to avoid you.

To your problem. Your cats are NOT trying to kill each other. If they have not yet been fixed (spayed or neutered) then the cat that is "mounting" the other cat is trying to mate. With all that yowling, I suspect that they were mating. Cats make a LOT of noise when they are making babies - I know I've seen enough of it in my life. Mittens may smell funny becuase Mittens may be in heat.

If they are both fixed, then the cat that is mounting the other one is simply trying to stablish his dominance. The other cat may be protesting, but they will soon work out who's boss sooner or later - with or without your help. If this is what they are doing, interfere only when it looks like one cat may seriously hrt the other (rather rare). And when you do decide to intervene, squirt them with a water pistol or pour a cup of water over them - that stops a cat immediately.

it's important to not hit cats with a broom they only learn to fear you--squirt them with water instead which is more kind and effective. I also have concern you are not feeding your cats the proper diet. A vegan cat diet is very dangerous and if you would please research the internet you will learn cats are obligate carnivores. Depriving them of this will unfortunately be deadly. Ask any veterinarian this fact. The website you quoted http://www.vegancats.com/has major lawsuits against them for people who lost their cats to this diet. If you truly love your cats please be sure they have the proper diet or you will have very expensive vet bills and lose your kitties.

Your cats are probably sexually mature and according to your profile info you want them to mate. This is unwise and if you visit a local animal shelter you will learn how many cats are put to death because of not spay/neutering your pets.

i have two cats, mittens and mr. snickers and they are having a wedding soon. your all invited!!! lol!!

i believe in respecting all animals so i am a vegan, and so are mittens and mr. snickers. theres this great website called www.vegancat.com or something where i get all-natural no-meat cat food! that way, they don't have to eat animals either. one thing that helps is if you soak the food in chicken broth, though, because they like the taste better in my experience.

sounds like mittens is in heat. Which means if your cats arent fixed or dont get fixed soon then you will have little kittens scampering around in a couple months.
