be really honest and ask them simple questions. political views? what kind of music they like? what they look for in a guy/girl? simple things like that.

What are you asking for? Do you have a girlfriend or not? If you already have one you should know how to converse with her. If you don't have one just ask the girl you're interested in about her likes/dislikes, musical tastes, what she might be reading right now, etc. Never be afraid to ask a question; that's how relationships begin.
