Inordinate shedding may be caused by stress, allergy or by the cat's diet. Sometimes when a cat is in a new environment or when there is something stressful where he lives (another new pet, a baby, a new person, noise, etc), the cat may over-groom and literally lick his fur till he's bald. Some cats develop allergies just like we do to certain items. But most of the time, inordinate shedding is caused by an inadequate diet. I suggest you try changing his diet and see what happens in a week or two. If the cat still sheds, then its time to take the problem to the vet.

The most probable reason the cat is losing hair is because the cat is stressed. The big mystery to solve is the cause of the stress. Allergies? Physical illness? Fleas? Probably only a trip to the vet for a check-up is going to solve the mystery. Please go soon. The cat wants to quit hurting and you want your cat to get well. Hope it is nothing serious.

My cats hair was falling out, and the vet said that I needed to feed her better food. I was giving her Iams, but now I give her Maxcat. Her condition has improved 100%.
