First of all thanks everyone who answered my last question. Your answers were all good and heartfelt. But it made me realize the question I should have asked is "How did you come to find your religion? What drew you to the beliefs that you know/feel/sense is the truth?"

Thanks

For me, Logic. I looked at everything out there and spent years of serious looking and seeking. What I found was that all "religions" say you have to work your way there. You have to keep 5 pillars or 10 commandments, etc, and I realized that was impossible to do it perfectly.

I also realized that there was no guarantee of heaven in any religion, that I came across. Everything was basically "you be good enough and you may get in and you may get your sins forgiven".

Then talking to this muslim lady one day she mentioned several times that according to islam, jesus will stand up in heaven and deny all of the christians and say that mohammed was the big prophet. I didn't know why she brought up Jesus, but I started researching who this Jesus was.

It took several months of looking but I realized that Jesus claimed to be the only way to eternal life. I kept looking things up and researching. Eventually I started watching preaching to hear more. I never really read the bible. But I heard all these things that Jesus was the son of God and that if you repent and trust in him that you will be saved.

So one day in my truck, when I was moving to a new house, and I was going through a lot of difficulties with my marriage, etc, I simply prayed "Jesus, I'm tired of living like this. I'll commit my life to you". That's about all I remember. Before this I had always tried to make deals with God. I said God, if you exist, then show me. It was a serious step of faith to humble myself and give up my life. I procrastinated because I knew that I would have to give up my sins or at least try.

But the next day after that happened, I kept on in my sin. But something was different. I didn't like it as much any more. After a few weeks, I had totally stopped, because it became disgusting.

Then over the next month something weird happened. I felt I had to go to church. I didn't want to. I dreaded the thought. But I knew I had to. I was lead to a church down the street from my house and started attending it regularly for nearly a year.

I started to actually like the bible. I was like a sponge and just soaked up all I could. I always knew that the bible was true, but it wasn't until I humbled myself before God that I realized how true it is.

Anyway, If you are seeking, may I suggest a shortcut. Figure out who Jesus is. Read about him. Listen to preaching about him. And don't be afraid to give up sin. And you'll certainly find Truth.

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except by me."

Seek and you will find.

I discovered God before I embraced Religion. When I was in college my life spiralled out of control due to drug abuse. One night I was having painful DT's when I saw this religious program on the TV. The guy on the show said that if you open yourself to God then he'll save you. Well what did I have to lose? So I literally got down on my knees and pleaded to God to help me. God's response was immediate and very obvious. It was then and there that I discovered Jesus Christ.

Since then I've tried about 5 different denominations but ended up spending most of my time with Catholicism. But I dont go to Church as much as I'd like. I mainly go when I feel I need instruction. Jesus Christ is in my life on a daily basis and I seek his instruction all the time.

I was very lucky. Nearly half a century ago, while I was confused about human life and man's relation to the world, I found a religious book dropped in a private high school where I taught English. I read it and I was convinced that it lead to true Faith. It is the Baha'i Faith.

Interesting question.

After all ups and downs in my youth, been there and done that, I came to books of Anand Krishna that teach you that no matter what your religions are, all roads lead to God.
It's a big WOW to me and then I realized that religion only a path that you take to become closer and closer to God.
It opened my heart to accept and respect all kinds of people and religions.
I really believe that one person can make a difference just by opening his/her heart.
I already have a religion, but that time I found my spirituality.

I honestly believe, that God found me, and wouldn't let go. God uses people and events in our lives to draw us to him. My mom, thankfully, faithfully took us to church. That is a huge factor in it. Since then though, I have asked questions, and followed the word of God, and found it to be true. I am SO thankful, I was introduced to the religion, that I believe to be true, now that I am an adult, and faced the tougher questions posed to my religion, holy book, and god. I am not afraid to tackle the hard questions, as I think the truth holds up to any scrutiny. One just has to be willing to search, and study, and learn all kinds of things along the way. Thanks for asking, take care. :)

If you want to call my beliefs a religion, I found it after I got tired of having to ignore the contradictions in the Bible. Then I realized that the main reason I believed in God was because I believed the Bible (backwards, I know!). Finally, I decided to accept the facts rather than wishful thinking and let my beliefs be determined by evidence.

I have not found a religion yet, I still discover new answers to my spirituality a lot. I will never have a defined religion, no one person shares my exact beliefs.

Shamanism is really a religion, and it's found within the self. You have to learn to still your conscious mind, as you ponder meaningful questions. The answers you seek will come when you have stilled your mind.
