my guests just KNOW to take off their shoes when they come in my home. i don't like shoes to be worn in house, i don't like the bottom of my socks to be black.. also i automatically take off my shoes in other peoples homes & if they don't mind the say "you don't have to take your shoes off" but i prefer shoes off. i guess it comes from having children and when little ones are crawling around you don't want all that garbage on the floor

I would never expect or even ask guests to take their shoes off in my home. However, I do always offer to take mine off when I enter someone else's home. Do I like taking them off? Not especially! In my own home I usually keep a few pairs of slippers by each door so I can slip my shoes off and put them on, but it's more for comfort than anything else.

I allow shoes to be worn in my box that's called an apartment but at my mom's house it's completely different. She doesn't tell anybody to take their shoes off but she gives them a look that makes them do it. It's a look of pure evil.

That depends on a few things and due consideration should be given on all accounts.
Overweight people have trouble putting their shoes on.
Elderly people have trouble, too.
Handicapped people have trouble with it. Not all handicapped people have visually obvious handicaps. Be more sensitive to others than aware of your efforts in housekeeping.
Many people need to sit down to put shoes on or take them off. Be sure to provide a place for them to sit.
Many people have ungainly feet and are uncomfortable broadcasting it. Still others may have sweaty or smelly feet.
Personally, I believe removing shoes is a safety hazard. Not everyone is gracious and elegant and your home may be a jungle to guests - stubbed toes are common around furniture with ornate legs. Not everyone is perfectly balanced and others have corrective shoes for all manner of issues. Asking such people to remove their shoes is unfair, at best.

I wear shoes in my house, however I respect anyone that prefers that shoes not worn in their home. The way I look at it, carpet is very expensive and they want to make it last.

no I don't. Now I run around the house with no shoes. If I visit someone and they ask me to remove my shoe I will.

No I've never asked anyone to remove their shoes. I'll take them off in someone else's home of they ask that I do.

During spring and winter, and rainy days in summer I do ask people to take off their shoes. I always take my shoes off as well. I like to be respectful of other people and their homes.

No, I do not ask guests to take their shoes off. I don't mind if I am visiting someone and they request it, either. Their house, their rules.
