... and that includes everyone else who says they're a Christian.

Got any proof that YOU have a definition of the true Christian that would convince him? Why should we be persuaded by YOUR definition of a true Christian then?

Yes people, I know what a vile scumbag Phelps and his family are. I don't need reminding. Nor am I suggesting that his version of Christianity is valid anywhere other than in his diseased brain. You don't need to tell me that he's a bad man. I'm asking how you arrive at a definition of a "true" Christian, when someone like Phelps has as much conviction about his version as he does. It's all relative. Just be honest. Stop trying to exclude the people you're embarrassed by.

Exactly. Arguing over who's a true Christian amounts to arguing over what true Christianity is. And that's totally up for interpretation. So the whole exercise is pointless.

And the really funny thing is that Fred Phelps is a registered Democrat, and hosted a fundraiser for Al Gore's campaign.

"Phelps has run in various Kansas Democratic Party primaries in Kansas five times, but has never won. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, receiving about 15% of the vote in 1998."

"Phelps supported Al Gore in the 1988 and 1992 Democratic Party primary elections. In his 1984 Senate race, Gore opposed a "gay bill of rights" and stated that homosexuality was not something that "society should affirm". Phelps has stated that he supported Gore because of these earlier comments."

So, I guess he's a Christian as much as he's a Democrat? Or are we going to continue with the rhetoric?

Wow! do I have a great sentence for you. be back soon.

Moses wrote (Leviticus 18:12):
V’et zachar lo tishkav mishk’vey eeshah toeyvah hee."

When a man spends sexual time with another man, instead of his wife, he is being disharmonious in his marriage and toward his wife.

Please allow this repost that proves that Fred Phelps is an ignorant bigot. Not just a bigot; but an ignorant bigot.

(be right back)

This (chat group) is where I learned that the original Bible text never condemned homosexuality. (That famous Leviticus verse). It was a blatant (non-accidental) misinterpretation in 325AD and then again in 1611 when the Bible was translated into english. -

In the original verse it said a married man should not spend sexual time with another man, lest it would cause disharmony with his wife.

The current KJB verse in Leviticus is completely different than the original verse and completely out of context with the entire rest of the Bible- But dumb Bubba Preachers scream that it (the English translation) is the real bible. - Sometimes, they are so stupid it makes me want to vomit.

It was on this chat group that I learned that God never condemned homosexuality; he was simply condemning disharmony.

I am Sure, some Bubba preachers scream at Gays because they want everyone to propogate large families, so that his religious empire with grow. -- That's is the main way he gets new members..

(PS: I am not a homosexual; but truth is more important than denominational claptrap. Anyone who discriminates against homosexuals is either blind or stupid or both)

Fred Phelps is misguided and a tortured soul I believe. He has misconstrued the Bible to his own standards. True, God hates the fact that some of His children choose the gay lifestyle, but He would not want any of His children to protest at brave solders' funerals, that is not only tacky, but an insult to the soldier's who fight for this guys' "right of expression". I think the best description of a Christian is someone who lets Jesus shine thru them and tries to get people saved, tells the good news of Jesus, even if it makes someone mad(as that's God convicting their hearts), and follows what the Bible says. I think Brother Phelps needs a TRUE Baptist to come and witness to him and show him the way to Jesus, as I think he missed it in his Bible time.

A true Christian follows Jesus and His teachings - if Fred Phelps' life does not line up with Jesus' life - as our example - then you can safely say he is not a true Christian. But having said this, Christians are not perfect - they are imperfect and sinful. Don't put Christians on pedestals, okay? We are saved by the Lord Jesus and should live by His standards - but sadly all Christians do not and I know this. True Christianity is living by Jesus' standards and His lifestyle, becoming more and more Christ-like, and less sinful. As for Fred - I cannot say about his salvation. He needs to compare himself with the Lord Jesus and see where he stands - it is not for me to say.

One more thing - God hates the sin but loves the sinner - so should we. If a person has chosen the gay lifestyle, he is a sinner - but God still loves him. We as true Christians need to love gays - not hate them. We need to pray for them and their souls. Blessings.

Fred Phelps has to answer to God for Fred Phelps. You have to answer to God for yourself. Fred may well be a Christian, but he's being an *** about it. Freds make all Christians look bad, when it is the minority that are bad.

Again, the definition of a Christian is one who follows the path of Christ. Jesus to be exact. Jesus did not hate fags nor tax collectors nor prostitutes nor anyone for that matter. Jesus was non-violent and accepted everyone. Real Christians have compassion. Real Christians recognize that they are sinners as bad as the next and don't judge a person for any reason. "Judge not lest you be judged." As Catholic Christians we are taught to love the sinner, hate the sin. I condemn no one, I judge no one, I try to get along and love everyone. Anything less is not Christian.

Fred Phelps is dead.... do you know how he treated his kids? He beat his sons with a mattock handle and one of them is still crippled from it. He was evil in it's purest form.

Fred Phelps does fit my definition of "A" christian. all christians think they have the only "truth".
"my" definition of a TRUE christian is a muslim. one who follows the same religion jesus did, praying to God alone. jesus was NOT a "christian".

Good point. Fred Phelps is only a little bit more extreme than some of the dribble we see here.
