Asking teacher for extension?

Don't want to plagirize, so is this a good reason to ask for more time. I'm a sophomore.

"I having issues finding enough info on my artist. I was wondering if I could pick another. I know its due January 17, tommoroww. But I wanted to keep trying until I really couldn't find any."

You might want to talk to your teacher but it sounds like you didnt and you procrastinated on the talking part. I hope it works out.
