ANy positive contributions to society? I have sponsor children, volunteer at an addiction counselling center, partake in all my church activities, work and pay taxes....

What about you?? Not suggesting you dont do good things. Just wondering what your interests are.

Thanks

Not that I think you asked this question in a nice open way but I will answer. I work as an Assistant Operations Manager with adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities, in a residential facility. I give back to the community and the future daily and that has nothing to do with my beliefs about religion. My husband and I travel, I love to read and further my education. We raise our children, we attend school functions. Nascar races, watch movies, read books, play cards, spend time with our family and friends. And I don't think the government asks you what your religious beliefs are before they take taxes from you! I think we do what most grown adults do that live within the law. But thanks for trying to somehow say that being Agnostic/ and or Atheists that we don't have normal hobbies~ shows your true education level there. Ever think that maybe by reading a book other than the bible that you could ask more educated and thought provoking questions?

If your point is to "stop the hate" then maybe you shouldn't ask such a ridiculous question with such an arrogant tone. Your second sentence attacks atheists, and your third and fourth imply that atheists don't contribute to society, or at least not at your levels.

Anyway, atheists do not believe in any gods. That's it. They have a wide range of hobbies. But you see how your actual question is ridiculous right? No one in their right mind would ask theists what their hobbies are... because you would get the same answer if you just asked 'people' what their hobbies are.

Shouldn't you not be allowed near children, or was that whole thing a bunch of BS Or are you lying about sponsoring children

Man you sure are full of S*** I don't believe a word you say anymore

You act as though we don't do a bit of good on this earth, but you have no idea. I bet I do more good in one day than you do in you entire life time

... Do you think that just because we're atheists we're exempt from working and paying taxes? I'd venture to say that just as many of us work as any other percentage of the population, meaning that we pay taxes too. (And do honestly consider paying taxes a hobby?)

I'm on the executive board of an organization at my university working on civil rights, civil liberties, and social issues as they pertain to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Instead of sponsoring children, I donate to reforestation efforts, as I'd prefer whatever children end up in this world to have breathable air and a stable climate.

I'm studying computer science and cognitive science and will eventually be working in the field of artificial intelligence, as it's becoming increasingly obvious to me that whether it was natural selection or God who produced humans, there's a lot of room for improvement on the intelligence end.

I mock religious people in much the same way I mock those who believe in the Greek pantheon or Santa Claus. It's not "religious people" I have problems with. It's people ignoring their intelligence—the defining trait that makes us human—and believing utterly unfounded things that I have problems with. You believe it's important to save my soul. I believe it's important to save your mind. Simply a matter of conflicting interests. It's not the antagonistic enmity you paint it as.

Mazel tov, David. You're still going to The Bad Place for idolatry. Didn't JC say something along the lines of "if you are fasting, wash your face and do not let people know you are fasting?"

This is the worst and most loaded and despicable question I have seen all night.

So Xtians,
What are your hobbies other than murder, burning people at the stake, forcibly indoctrinating children, molesting kids, hard handedly converting unsuspecting innocents out of their religion, and making up scripture to support your theories?

COME ON! Leave Atheists alone.

We sponsor a young boy in Colombia, and I practice my Spanish writing to him. We donate to a family counseling agency, and to the YMCA's youth programs.

We are avid campers and love the outdoors. My daughter has adopted a wolf in Yellowstone; she is very environmentally pro-active.

We love hiking, visiting wineries, reading, watching movies, the martial arts, cooking...

edit -- there is a difference between crowing about your self-righteousness and simply stating your interests and activities. If we state the good things we do, might it not inspire others to do likewise? If my sister had never told me about the little girl she sponsors, we might not have been moved to sponsor our child.

I have a dear friend who is an atheist. She is very kind and a good mother. She lives her life as though she has no "do-overs"....she doesn't believe there is forgiveness for sins so she tries to get it right the first time.
