If a person has been ill for a long time (9-10 months) and is starting to recover from the physical problems, plus the mental anguish it caused, should a person jump right back into things and risk all that same old fear from the past, or ease back slowly?
The physical will be healing every day, but the lingering mental dilemma is feeling unsure about "getting out there" again. You pretty much know that you won't ever suffer physically like you used to, but you're kind of afraid because it was so awful.
Jump in, or toe first?

I would take it one day at a time like someone said. Concentrate on small goals that you know you can accomplish and reward yourself in some way when you accomplish them. You have value no matter what your disabilities are. I may get some thumbs down on this, but praying and trusting God is the best way to get through this. That is the Truth. Bless U.

It really depends on what kind of person you are putting your toe in often gives you the chance to quickly change your mind out of fear and run back to safety so I say jump in head first and maybe have someone there to help you get back into things.
Accidents happen all the time in life and if we don't push forward and move on we will live a life full of fear and feel we have accomplished nothing at the end.
It's natural for you to feel uneasy about this but grab a friend and go for it remember the times you enjoyed doing that stuff before things went wrong, we can have accidents everyday whether it is our fault or others we are never secure in life just sometimes when something happens the reality of safety hits us and we get a little scared but it applies to everything you do whether its taking a shower going out for a walk anything it's best to just move on with life and get back to the things you loved doing to begin with friends are there to support you through this along with family it will all be ok jump in head first

I would, absolutely, take it slowly. You've been ill for such a long time, you could risk relapse if you jump right back in. Even if the doctor says you can, I would be cautious--better safe than sorry.

Have you had a therapist or trusted friend to talk to about the mental anguish? If not, I would ask the doctor to recommend a therapist (or find one at a free clinic, or through school or work).

Definitely toe first.

Be well!

Start slow, you dont want the stress of doing to much to fast.
I honestly believe most people can solve many of their problems themself. I read many self-help books and it teaches me how to deal with any problems that arise.
When you have physical ailments it is different. But books that can give you confidence and strength is good.
Take you time and start with what is important to you first. Then work from these. Add a new thing every few months until you feel whole. Good Luck

Hmmm. Take it one day at a time. One day jump in. The next day take it slowly. See which feels right for you.
