For the first question why don't you rent the movie and read the book? I understand it is about global warming. The essential difference between any book and movie is the time and image constraints on film vs. the written word which is unlimited in both areas.

For the second question: an anecdote is a story or account relevant to a topic being discussed. Explanations supply information that aids comprehension of a problem, hopefully to the point of desired effect (ie) forgiveness, compassion, to be excused, etc. Reasons are the list of effects behind a cause or the cause before the effect.
Facts are proven events that are verifiable.
Details are a combination of relevant anecdotes, explanations, reasons and facts!

a book leaves things to the imagination, like to wonder about, its like one version in your head and then the authors version and the interplay between them.

movies leave nothing to the imagination, its just other people acting out the story, all on film so no room( at least not much) for interpretation and or theory

I am unfamiliar with that movie so I can't even comment on it.
