Try going to craigslist.com and find your specific location in pets. there are alot of pets in need of homes posted there daily, some are free but most ask for a modest re-homing fee.

Not many places, really. Shelters do charge an adoption fee. Probably the only place is the "FREE" postings that appear in newspapers, but with that you have to consider that you are getting what you pay for. If you get from a breeder or shelter you will get a health guarantee and it will be up-to-date on it's shots and worming, etc. It will also be spayed or neutered if you get it from a shelter, and possibly even microchipped. If you get from a "free" ad, the animal will probably have none of these and you'll end up spending more at the vet than you would for the adoption fee at a shelter.
Why aren't you willing to pay for a pet? If you don't have the money, you should not adopt. Pets can cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a year.

You normally can't adopt a dog for free. Where ever you adopt them from, probably paid to get them fixed or spayed, then paid more to get all of their shots. and even more to keep them and feed them. so they are going to want their money back, so they can pay to care for more dogs. If you are looking for free dogs, drive around and see if there are any free puppies signs, and look in your local paper to see if anyone is giving them away. I live in the country and people dump dogs out at my place all the time. or at least in the neighborhood, and the usually find their way to my house(I guess a little birdy told him my family is softies for strays) and we usually clean them up, feed them, and put signs up for a found dog, and if no one claims him, we change the found to FREE and usually someone comes and gets the dog.

Dog pound or animal shelter. Dogs are not cheap animals to keep, so being that you want one for free will you be prepared for the vet bills? And what if something happens to it health wise, are you going to be responsible and take it to the vet?
Do not get one if you do not have the money and can not make the proper commitment.
Most if not all palces require a payment or donation

try looking in newspaper under free to good home.or put add in paper saying you would like to give a home to unwanted pup.,for free please.;if you can at all try the animal shelter they have so many that are being put to sleep every day and they don't cost much ,save a life.sorry but if you can't afford to buy one are you sure you need one right now it cost a lot to take good care of one that is why their are so many in the shelters people cant afford to keep them and even more sad they love them when they are cute little playful puppies then they grow up and they loose interest in them .just be sure your ready for one they can live 20 years if they are took to vet regularly.

many shelters are free. all you have to pay for is the vaccines and spay or neuter. but if you can't afford proper vet care, toys. crate, proper feeding, etc....please wait until you can. a dog is a big commitment. you are taking an innocent life into your own hands and commiting to provide and care for it for the next 12-17 years.
