Boyfriend sounds so high school. Isn't there a better word?

I introduced my now husband (then live-in) by his name. Anyone I cared about us already knew him, and I didn't feel it was anyone else's business what our living arrangements were. People get it on their own given time, it is in the way you are with each other that tells the tale

I think I would introduce him as my companion. You are right - boyfriend sounds high school. Or, I would simply introduce him by his name. Have you asked him how he wants to be introduced???? I wish you the best.

Companion, partner, friend, "my guy", significant other, "the man in my life"....any of those work better for ya?

I agree, past a certain age, "boyfriend" just does sound odd...I'm 42 and I'm gettin' to that point...

you are not obligated to reveal everything about yourself and him to people when you are introduced. When it comes up in conversation that you two are living together I can't imagine anyone will be horrified and shocked that you didn't introduce him as your boyfriend in order to prepare her/him for the news.

If you live together are you are close i'd call him my constant companion or my special friend. That does not imply too much nor does it sound like kids.

Synonyms: admirer, baby, beau, companion, crush, daddy, date, escort, fiancé, flame*, follower, gentleman caller, gentleman friend, heartthrob, inamorato, lover, main man, man, old man, paramour, squeeze, steady, suitor, swain, sweetheart, truelove, wooer, young man

Personally I like "truelove"... I think that pretty much sums it all up.

Just use their name. When you're an adult you don't have the insecurities of letting everyone know your relationship status.

I tell people this is my friend as I put my arm around him and give him a little squeeze. People get it.
