I doubt that they are asking for a masterpiece. Pick something that you are comfortable with, and that will not cause permanent damage to clothing, people or furniture.
Buy a few bags of different kinds of colored, or plain pasta or a bag of mixed beans for a 7 or 12 bean soup, and a variety of construction paper, some white glue or a glue stick. You'll have art supplies for a couple years. Both of you get down on a smooth floor and make a 'pretty picture' together with colored construction paper bits, beans and pasta. All you have to do is keep from getting glued to the floor. nothing can spill too far, and clean-up is easy.

This is an idea I've been wanting to do for awhile. It's not really an idea related to a known-artist topic. But, I like to cross-age-teach, that is, have older children create something that teaches younger children. I've been wanting to pick a large statue of a human, or use a real person. and then sketch or photograph twelve pictures of it from twenty feet away from different angles, just like the twelve positions of a clock. Then, I want to laminate the 8X10 pictures (on printer paper) and package them up as an activity for Kinders to do in a classroom. I would put something non-descript in the center of a large open area, such as a ball, to mark the center or, where the statue or person would have been standing. Then, have the children arrange the twelve pictures in a circle around the ball in the correct sequence of perspective. See what I mean? Gosh, children would gain so much with that activity that would help their artistic eye.

this has turned out to be a very creative and fun project for the kids in my mothers daycare. take an egg carton (bottom preferably brown cardboard). cut each line out and have the kids pick a color of paint and paint it (hump side up). then have them glue some googley eyes on the front, then cut out some holes for the antenna, then let them choose a color, cut the pipe cleaner in half and stick it thorough the hole. when they are done, they will have a very cute catepillar.
you could have the kids put beans, anything that makes noice inside a paper towel holder or a toilet paper holder. you can make your own rain stick, let them paint, color, stickers, glue stuff, what not on the outside. then cover the bottom with duct tape and let them put some noise makers in there. then tape up the top and let them shake it up.
both of these ideas are fun for children to do.
if you would like some other ideas, just let me know my mother has a lot.

Is this a project for the whole class together or a parent/child projects. There are lots of cute thumbprint designs. You could get some unpainted pottery pieces, have the kids put their thumbprints on it and then draw a cute design. You can have the piece glazed and then you will have a cute mug or plate as a keepsake. There are a few thumbprint designs available at: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Shoreway77/Thumb1.html. There are also lots of books available, you can probably find some at your local library.

Simple, get a box or shoebox and cut out pics in magazines and glue in the box to make a cute picture.
Or make chains, cut strips of paper and tape them together.

cut out shapes of a snowman. Make popcorn. Let them glue the popcorn to the snowman pattern. Decorate it with raisins for eyes and buttons. Let them eat the popcorn and raisins that are left over.

how about choclate pudding finger painting.....or you could cut out hearts and stickers and they could make some type of valentine project. It seems like kids love glitter, paint or anything messy and since it is at school and not home it makes it even better for you!!!

How about a collage from her heritiage? Like if she's part French or something like that. It would be artistic and tell people something about her at the same time.
