My 3 year old male German shepherd has had recurring urinary tract infections. He has been on 3 rounds on antibiotics. They even gave him a shot of antibiotic this last time to give it a jump. Has any one had this same problem and what finally cured it. I treated him this summer for heartworms, tapeworms, hookworms, and roundworms. He was a rescue that was badly neglected but has come around to be a wonderful dog. I am looking for anything to helf him. I have his sister who I have had since she was 6 weeks. She is extremely healthy. No problems ever. Help!

You might want to take the dog to a specialist. UTI isn't very common in male dogs because of the length of the urethra. Bacteria would have to go all the way up. You didn't say if the dog has blood in it's urine. For a male dog it could also be a prostate problem, which antibiotics wouldn't cure. Your vet can check for this rectally

Have you considered putting him on a special diet to help with UTI's? Hills makes a diet called c/d and Purina has U/R. Ask your vet if he/she thinks either of these could help or if there is another type of food that's more appropriate. Some animals just have chronic infections that never go away. All you can do is keep them on antibiotics.

Whatever you do..Make sure hes neutered because Male German Shepards have a long history of Testicle Cancer...And my male dog we had was like one of the family,we had him 10 years...Just recentley died of Testicullar Cancer...The only way to keep them from getting it,is to neuter them...Im sorry I dont know anything about UTI in them though...
