My son is 7.5 months old and appears to be developing very well. He is active, happy, and big for his age. However, food seems to just go right through him. He generally has 4 big dirty diapers a day, and he eats non stop. He is still getting up 2-3 times at night for a bottle, and he eats 9oz every time. We put rice cereal in his bottles, and he is eating baby food and cereal very well. I'm afraid that his eating and diaper habits are abnormal though. I called the doctor this morning and told them that he was still not progressing to a more mature schedual and they said they are going to refer him to a pediatric gastroenterologist. Has anyone else had a child that was similar? What was the problem? Did they outgrow it?

I remember my 9 month old having days like that. Once he drank 2 8 oz bottles plus a jar of baby food in one sitting...kept wanting more and more food! And he did have 3-4 big, messy diapers at that time as well.

He did grow out of it and in only a matter of a couple of weeks.

been there done that. I ended up taking mine to the ER. Well. The doc there told me that I was starving him. How dare he? But apparently that stuff about not feeding him till he was a certain age just didn't work with my kid. I ended up taking him home. I was told to feed him applesauce which helped with the bowel thing and then I started introducing him to table food which was much heavier on his stomach. Not only did we all sleep that next night but was more satisfied and things straightened right out. I have 2 boys and they both turned into big bruisers. I can now see why the little bit of cereal and formula didn't sit well with them. They are both huge now. 5'10" and 6' 3". You thnk about it. My life revolved around my kids. I would have never even thought of starving them. Feed that baby.

Went through the same thing with my now 2 year old....I didn't sleep one full night until he was 10 months old because he constantly was hungry. He would eat his baby food and 2 hrs later want more. Now he is in the 96th percentile for his age meaning only 4% of kids his age are bigger...No, not fatter, taller. Healthy as a horse.

rice cereal in bottles, that dont sound too good.
Let the child eat, it sounds normal, they eat more than ever the first 2 yrs of life. It is the growing stage.
Give the child all he can eat . Get some cheetoes for him to chew on.
The child will lose this baby fat when it starts walking.

He could have a lactose intolerance. That could lead to frequent and soft stools.

Are you giving him juice? Apple juice will cause soft stools as well.

I don't think it sounds that weird. My son eats and poops all day long too, but he sleeps all night--BECAUSE WE TAUGHT HIM TO. You need to just ignore his crying and help him break this bad habit.
