I saw a beautiful gown at Goodwill for about $25. Try second hand stores.

You could always look at Bridemaids dresses instead and get that in White or off-white for $100-$300. One of my friends did this and it worked out very well. It was plain, white with small straps.

Another option is eBay!

I got married on the beach and had the same question. Finally I went to a bridal shop, found a bridesmaid dress that I LOVED, and ordered it in white, with the beading I wanted. It cost me $500 to $700 LESS than a traditional wedding dress.

Consignment shops, 2nd hand stores, etc. EBAY!!! I was having the same issue and I ended up buying a bridesmaid dress that comes in white!!!!

Instead of looking for "wedding dresses" try looking for Prom or pageant dresses. Sometimes they aren't as poofy and frumpy.

Good Luck!

Wait until prom season, around May and June. You can get an informal dress then at a department store for much cheaper than any bridal store.

JC Penney's have some very beautiful dresses in the $50, 60, 70 & up range. They are very modern, colorful for a comfortable, laid back wedding.

This has tons of dresses that aren't so expensive. Find the one you want online, call around to stores in your area to try it on, then order it online. It's almost always cheaper that way!

Try this website:

You may try Formal Gowns - Prom Dresses etc.

You'd be surprized to see what you can find in a beautiful white gown that's not from a bridal shop. My wedding dress was stunning and extremely inexpensive!

You could also try to get prom dresses on sale. There are some cute ones out there.

J.crew, ann taylor (they'll get great dresses in Spring), Nordstrom, and even JC Penney have some great informal dresses. Give me a sec and I'll link to some.
