Hell is a real place of torment, just as Gods word describes.
Heaven is a real place of love and joy, just as Gods word describes. Heaven is for those who accept the free gift of salvation from Christ Jesus. Hell is for those who reject Christ Jesus' free gift of salvation. Jesus is God Almighty, and as such He cannot lie. He tells us on several occasions that hell is a eternal fire, a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The reason He says there will be "weeping" and "Gnashing of teeth" is symbolic of humans and demons suffering together in hell. The humans will be weeping because they feel remorse for their unbelief or indifference to Christ Jesus.
The demons will be gnashing their teeth because they are not capable of remorse, only absolute hate of God and His saints.
Thanks for the wonderful question.
Jesus Love You...God Bless You.....Peace.

Your question is not silly and on the contrary is very important. Many people in this forum are wasting their time and everybody else's time by asking really stupid questions.
According to the Vedic Knowledge (the oldest knowledge) the material planets, Earth included, are considered hellish planets. There are also heavenly planets in this material manifestation where the life span is longer and there is more enjoyment than that available in this planet. However, heavenly and hellish planets, are Hell because anyone who inhabits this material manifestation has to go through birth, disease, old age and death. Also great anxiety and fear are constantly present. The real "Heaven" is that where those above mentioned miseries are not present. That is called the Spiritual World. In order to reach the Spiritual World one needs to end the cycle of repeated birth and death.

It's not silly and is very important to know where you're going to spend the after life. Besides the Bible the best book I can recommend is Driven by Eternity by John Bravire. It talks about heaven and hell and gives an allegory to help you understand what it's about.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believes that we lived in heaven before we came to earth. Now that we are on earth our goal is to get back to heaven and to help others along the way. The only way we can make it back to heaven is if we are sinless and since no one is sinless God sent his son Jesus Christ to make a way that we could get back to heaven. When the Judgement day comes we will be judge on how we lived our lives.Heaven is divided up into three "kindgdoms" those who tried their best, (even if they made mistakes) will make it back to the highest level (celestial kingdom) and the other two are for those who didnt do as well. Hell is a special place reserved for those that basically deny God, even if they had once felt he was real. Heaven will be a perfect place full of beauty and love.

Heaven is Planet H, the Home planet of God.

Hell was a planet controlled by Satan. but surely, in the last two thousand years, after the Bible was written, God and Jesus have done away with Hell.

Question that answers your question: What has God and Jesus been doing on their home planet these last 2000 years.

well, first off, there is heaven, purgatory, and hell. heaven is the kingdom of God, where you shall live in eternity in peace.souls who have been purified, repented, and have accepted God shall go to heaven. in heaven, you shall live connected to God and in happiness. next is hell. hell is a place of torture, suffering, and sorrow. it is Satan's domain. there you will find yourself in agony and no one can rescue you. once in hell, God can no longer forgive because you go to hell for completely shutting God out of your life. purgatory is a place to purify yourself and to prepare yourself to enter into heaven. it is a place of waiting and more like a second chance to go to heaven. but if you choose to deny God, you will go to hell.

Yes, hell just means the grave, and heaven is where God, Jesus and all his angels dwell.
