So I had my left lower wisdom tooth extracted 8 days ago. It was fine the first several days, but now that I have started using that side of my mouth again, I have sensitivity when eating, and especially when drinking something cold. Is this normal?

The tooth was not impacted at all. It was a very easy extraction. The reason for the extraction was basically a botched cavity filling. My tooth ended up getting infected. So it was either a root canal or extraction. Nothing was prescribed to me either.

you need to be careful when your wisdom teeth are pulled. if the tooth was not impacted it should heal realativley quickly, but if the tooth was impacted then it can actually take about three months before it is completely healed again. you should call the place that did the operation and have them take a look at it, or take it easy on your mouth for another week and if things arent better by then call your dentist or surgeon.

It could be a couple of things - but the best way to find out is to go to your doctor for a follow up.

For one thing, it could be that there is a bit of food caught in the healing socket that you can't clean out and it may be starting a small areaof infection or inflammation, or it could be that now that the swelling is gone, the back of your 2nd molar is exposed and sensitive to the "elements". Again, the best thing is to have your doctor check it.

Yes it's normal. My mouth was sensitive for a long time. It does go away. I haven't had any problems with sensitivity since I've had mine pulled. Did they prescribe an antibiotic mouth wash for you?

Im guessing its no big deal. From what I've heard that is a very painful tooth to get pulled. If it gets worse just call your dentist and ask.

Perfectly. It's going to take a while for your gums to heal. Also, you may have some minor bone or root fragments that are trying to work their way to the surface. That can be painful, but it, too, is normal.
