Ok.. so I'm going on vacation and I need a new camcorder. I want a MiniDv, entry level camera. $250/$300. I've been looking for a week now and read a bunch of reviews and I'm just more confused than I was when I started. I just want to know which one any of you would recommend. I really love night vision I want that, and a high optical zoom (not too worried about digital), decent picture (for the price), and the ability to connect it to my pc! Any suggestions from people who know what they're talking about would be greatly appreciated!

relies upon - inspite of the reality that MiniDV is the better format, a low-value 'n' nasty MiniDV camcorder aimed in direction of the client marketplace won't provide a large photograph because of the fact it is going to likely be permit down by using its small sensors. besides the undeniable fact that, as Palladin factors out, an excellent MiniDV digicam - as an occasion, a 2d-hand professional sort like the Canon XM2 or the Panasonic DVX100 sequence - shoots uncompressed frames for a miles better prevalent high quality. for conventional definition, MiniDV is previous doubt the perfect way forward as long as you have a Firewire port. Given the alternative between a customer-point conventional definition MiniDV camcorder or a customer-point HD camcorder that takes enjoying cards, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, i could bypass with the SD card selection. customer-point HD camcorders do not record each physique uncompressed, it fairly is genuine, yet to my ideas the subjective video high quality is often better than conventional definition MiniDV at someone-friendly customer point.

The Canon ZR500 looks like a good entry-level camera. I don't own one, but it would be my choice. It'll hook up with a USB cable, has an input for an external microphone, powerful zoom, and will even do widescreen.
