Hi, i am currently 17years old, and i have noticed, for a week or two now, that everytime i swallow, i feel the food running down my esophagus, and it hurts really bad. Why is this pain happening? and how can i prevent this? would smoking or drinking affect this?

Smoking and drinking could affect it. Sounds like you have a raw spot in there, which could be any number of things. You could have eaten something too hot and scalded it (unlikely to last that long), you could have a case of strep (or similar), you could have an ulceration caused by acid buildup or a disfiguration in the esophagus, or you could have a tumor (also unlikely). If it persists for more than a few days (which it has already), you should definitely check with your doctor. If it is stress related or caused by reflux, he may be able to give you a pill that makes it go away. You can also try OTC medications, like Prilosec OTC, but a trip to your doctor would be wise.

This is severe heart burn and stress, try to take things easy for a while. Are you taking exams or worrying about anything ,it would help to have a chat to the doctor.try eating smaller meals ,take your time chew your food thoroughly, eat sitting at the table and don't bend over your food, cut out acid foods and see if that makes a difference, try ice-cream its very cooling for heart burn.De-stress your system and eat fresh foods cooked at home, calm yourself mentally before you eat, don't eat on a stressed stomach.Lindsay.
