separate them

before you go any further seperate them. they should be in an area where they can still smell and hear each other such as adjoining rooms where they can see and sniff each other under the door.

You then need to switch them to the room that the other was in (not together yet) this way they can start to get used to sounds and smells of each other. after this comes short supervised visits. This is a lot of work and can take a long time. My cats took six months. they were not seperated the whole time though. they cuddle and play now...finally!

Always start by taking the new cat to the vet to make sure all is well. also neuter and spay!!!

My vet also advised us when we began our cat search that males get along better with each other and females better with each other as opposed to opposite sexes. We were dog people and thought like dogs that we should do opposite sex but nope not so. For us anyway. It is not to late pretend you just got the new cat and start over right away. of course, sorry to say, some cats will never get along.

I just got a girl kitten last fall and I already had a male cat. They are both fixed, but it still took about 4 weeks before I felt remotely comfortable leaving them alone. keep the kitten in a seperate room to herself. They'll prolly hang out on opposite sides of the door for a while. That allows them to get used to each others' scent. Give your boy cat treats when he seems interested but not aggresive towards her. Or put both their food dishes on opposite sides of the door too. After a week or say, switch 'em (him in the room, her in the rest of the house) for a day. Then let them both out and give them treats and play with them with toys to distract them from hating each other. Some growling and hissing is to be expected. Also, they may just play-fight. My rule is as long as neither cries or is obviously not playing, it's okay. Be sure to fawn a little over your boy cat so he doesn't feel ousted. Good Luck!

I had this problem with 2 females. The latecomer was an alpha kitten and harassed my older tortoiseshell to no end. However they would at times leave each other alone. The kitten came in and asserted her superior place in the pecking order, and the best cat won. I eventually found another home for the tortoishell because I found her annoying from the beginning anyway, and I felt she deserved a chance to be loved and not hassled by my alpha kitty.

Have they been fixed (her spayed, him neutered)? That may be part of the problem. I'd be very careful if you found her on the street. You don't know if she's been vaccinated, and if she has something like Feline Leukemia, she could give it to your male, even if he HAS been vaccinated.

If you haven't had her very long, it will take some time for both of them to adjust to each other. We had the same problem, and we'd just break them up by swinging a dish towel or squirting them with a spray bottle when they fought. Now, they get along fine.

seems to me the boy cat is ready to mate while the girl cat isn't ready so if you don't want them to fight either seperate them or get both or at least the male fixed sooner or later the male will start marking it's territoryby spraying the house with some stinky stuff

lock the two of them in a room with you. sit the little one in your lap and pet her to keep her calm. let your older one come over and sniff her and whatever he is going to do. just keep her in your lap as long as possible. it is possible that she views him as a threat to her living conditions since you found her on the street.

Take them to the vet and have them both fixed if you haven't already. If you have, then they just may not be compatible.
