My chihuahua is overly protective of his food, his toys, bones, etc, a lot of times I dont think much and walk or sit close to him and he growls and sometimes even bites. Ive tried everything, from telling him calmly "No", by shouting "No", by hitting him not really hard with a newspaper, it doesnt work, today I got so angry cause he bit me when I was walking by while he was eating (I live in an apartment and my space is reduced I had to grab something right across from him) so I hit him really hard on his butt, like a little kid, I feel so guilty, but I just think is ridiculous to be afraid of my own dog.
He also wants to sleep with my husband and me at night, I always go "Down" and sometimes he obeys and goes to his own bed, but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the restroom or something and he is sleeping in my bed and growls and barks cause he doesnt like to be disturbed wiht my movements, he has tried to bite sometimes too. I am loosing my patience.

I don't have this problem with my Chihuahuas, and please don't ever hit him, because it won't solve anything and they are so fragile, that if you hit them too hard, you can really hurt them.. It will only make him more afraid of you., and you don't want that. Try doing this! My vet told me to try it, when mine misbehave and it works. Take a small spray bottle and fill it with plain water. Whenever he tries to bite or misbehaves, give him a couple squirts and say "no or bad". Don't get him too wet, because Chihuahuas get cold really easy. I did that with mine, and now ,all they have to do is see the bottle, when I take it out, and they automatically turn into little angels, and I don't have to squirt them at all.

He is not a little kid, that's your problem!! Mother dogs do not correct their pups by spanking them, this is a human thing. Mother dogs scruff their pups. Never hit your dog!! Dogs have a pecking order, and right now your below him. You have to dominate your dog. When your dog does this (growls/bites), grab him by the scruff (back of his neck and hold him on his back, kneel over him and growl). I know this sounds absurd, but this is how dogs treat each other, a language they understand. Another thing you can do is watch the Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan on the Discovery Channel. Good Luck & remember you have a dog, not a little kid.

This dog totally believes himself to rule the roost in your home. He has no idea you are the alpha.

Hitting him isn't going to do any good. Check out 'The Dog Whisperer' on the National Geographic channel. Give your little doggy a nice long walk (15-20 minutes) daily. This should help him out as well.

Chihuahuas are a spectacular breed of dog. It's all the power of the universe in a little bitty living space.

Check out Cesar Milan's website. He's going to be your best bet.

okay this sounds like a chi that had no training as a puppy and did not learn who the pack leader is . I would suggest getting him to a good trainer or some obdience classes . He has to be retrained in his way of thinking . Pack mentality is how dogs think and this dog thinks he is the pack leader or the alpha dog . Whenever he was a puppy you should have rolled him on his back and made him submissive to you. That is what the pack leader does . well now he needs to go to a proffesional trainer. good luck .

It really sounds like your dog is the boss. It is not uncommon for a chihuahua to be like this, but you can turn it around. You have to be very sure of yourself and make him work for everything...he will soon learn that he is not king. Teach him to sit and then before he gets anything (food-treats-toys-up on the coach-on the bed etc) make him sit first. Continue to correct him when he does this but never hit him, you are only teaching him to be more aggressive....YOU be the boss and demand his respect and he will soon learn to listen and obey you.

Good luck and try to be consistant.

The chi thinks he has the better hand and he's for sure perfect. He desires his muzzle grabbed close today after biting alongside with being flipped to his lower back and an outstanding 'NO!" command all jointly. that is strictly what wild canines do to attain dominance over the %.. it somewhat works! that is not too previous due. do not enable is slide even as quickly as. Consistency is of extreme importance.

get him a training collar and a leash and correct him every time he uses the behaviour that you want to change. as for the sleeping in bed thing. try to get him to sleep in a kennel at night if he is really resistant to sleeping in his own bed.

chihuahua's are very attached to one person, and can be very mean, sometimes you just can't help it, i would recommed seeing a obedience trainer, or put him in puppy school. he needs disepline, but chihuhahua are usually always dependent on ONE person, that person might not be you, maybe you can see a vet, because there might be something buggin him
