I think it thickens your mucus...as a singer, I was always told to never drink milk or eat anything dairy before a performance because it hampers one's ability to sing, due to all the thick mucus. Yuck!

yes they do because of the consistency of them. if you are having problems with the mucous try some hot liquids and clear water it will help it wash it down and make it thinner. like if you are coughing any kind of milk or say like ice cream will make it worse, sodas too.
