Are there any places in NC where people without health insurance can get mental health HELP ??? Does anyone know about these things ???

I was told by both a professor, and by a health professional, that every state has free and/or sliding-scale mental health clinics. In most cases you need to find out where they are from your local emergency room, local cops, perhaps a doctor--they are not normally advertised in the phone book or yellow pages. More than likely, you could call a medicaid office and get info from them.
