Because it would have contradicted Old Testament law (which authorizes sinful people to carry it out) and playing right into the hands of of the acussers. What Jesus was saying is "Whoever among you who is without equal guilt in this specific case be the one to initiate the execution." He had discerned their conspiracy, and was letting them know that if they initiated her execution, they were also initiating their own prosecution and condemnation!

Because His purpose on this Earth was to teach us tolerance and unconditional love. You can love the sinner, yet hate the sin. He loved the adulteress of that day just as He loves the corner prostitute of this day. You can change people for the better with love rather than the other alternative.

If you will read the passage Jesus says, Those of "you" without sin cast the first stone. He had no need to stone her. He had the ability to forgive her, Jesus knew her heart.

Because He is merciful and teaching forgiveness. He did tell the woman to go and sin no more, but forgiveness is the lesson here. God is a forgiving and just God.

Because he was (is) merciful. He was teaching the people mercy . He said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". The lesson is, none of us are without sin and therefore we are not to judge. He also said "Judge not lest ye be judged". We have no business judging other people.....actions yes, people, no.

He was talking to the people who wanted to throw the rocks. Jesus never condemned anyone to Hell or even to death when he was here.

Maybe he wasnt without sin, perhaps its just something christians like to say to make them feel better about thier beliefs.
