The AR-15 variants are going to be around a good while longer. this is because changing rifles is expensive. the thing thats holding the US up is cartrige development. the intermediate assault rifle cartrige is a fairly new concept when compared to other types of cartriges. the challenge is to make a round small enough so that the soldier can carry enough to do his job for a long time, but it should pack enough punch to kill an enemy.
