I have a Visa card from my bank but I want a REAL credit card. I like Visa but I think I am going to try to get a different card like MasterCard, Discover or AMEX. What do you prefer or like the best? Which have you had the best experience with?

I like the card that will pay me the most reward (preferably cash back) for my spending!

I've used the calculator at http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/ to tell me which card will pay me the greatest reward for my spending profile. Two of the best card for *me* are the AmEx Blue Cash and the Citi Driver's Edge MasterCard, but those may not be the best for *your* spending profile. Have the Credit Card Tune-Up calculator figure it out for you.

Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are all virtually the same. They normally give you a low limit to start with (if you have a little bit of good credit) and make you pay 3% of the balance or $15.00, whichever is more, per month. Amex is different in that you normally pay the balance - all of it - at the end of the month.

Now, this brings us to the practicality of credit cards...they are okay for building your credit, and possibly for emergencies - but beware! If you have money available, things become "emergencies" more often for some reason...lol.

I got one credit card in the beginning and before I knew it I had four and a total credit card debt of over $15,000.00. It took me a few years to get out of that mess (I'm still not completely out of the woods, but it's almost gone). So, just be careful if you decide you really need one. Personally, I would recommend you not though.

My Amazon Visa from Chase is great. AMEX is awesome and so is Discover. Rates are usually low and they have great fraud protection.

My favorite credit card is one that's chopped up and cancelled! Stick to a Visa debit card and stay out of trouble.

My debit card. It doesn't allow me to get into trouble by buying more than I can afford.

I haven't had many, if any, positive experiences with credit cards. I have always ended up spending so much more money than I would have paid if I'd just paid cash.

Save your money, pay cash.

My AMEX has always been nice to me. Decent rate, negotiated it down twice now on the phone. I got some nice limit increases.

American Express Blue, there's no anual fee, you don't have to pay the balance each month, and they have a great reward program.

Good Luck!
