Find out why they're in your house. Rodents will go wherever they find food. If you find their food source and eliminate it or block their access to it, they'll leave to find another home. Traps can help kill the stragglers, but with enough food, they can reproduce faster than you can kill them.

You might need an exterminator.
Cats can keep it under control but if your infested it might be too much even for the cats!
I had a mouse problem about 6 years ago. .2 traps baited with peanut butter sorted it out.
Then this past year I heard rustling again.. I baited the mouse trap but I also bought these little bags that you don't open just put in the back of your cupboard under the sink they eat the stuff and go away. I caught a rat in my mouse trap it freaked me out!
We live near a freeway and they live in the plantings and ever few years or so I will have to expect it. My cats were getting old so I guess they were tired of the chase. We have new younger cats in the neighborhood now and its been quiet for months.

A kitty cat will definitely solve your problem. However, you must be willing to care for a pet & it will take care of you & the mouse problem. There is also the choice of hiring an exterminator to come around on a regular basis. I think cat food is less expensive & you can't beat the comedy, cuddles, or purring sounds.

Place a few drops of "oil of peppermint" on a piece of cotton and place it anywhere there is a mouse problem. You will never see the mouse again because mice are allergic to "oil of peppermint" and will not enter a place where they can smell it.

try an electronic device you plug into an outlet. It emits a high-pitched sound which scares rodents away.
Search under 'electronic rodent control'.
