Is there a natural smell that dogs don't like?

I want to stop my three dogs from pooping on my patio without going to the expense of fencing it.

In the long run, training them would be best. Anything you use may wash away in the rain.

There is stuff you can buy at the pet store to stop them from using that area. My dog really hates the smell of finger nail polish or face cleaner like toner but that smell wouldn't last long. Researching how to train them would be best bet, teach them it is not ok to go there.
