Does Spike picks the fighters and not the UFC?

I know for a fact that one of the guys that will be on the next show, just got knocked out in Iowa by a guy that did not get picked.

I know UFC holds the try outs, but does spike pick the fighters or the UFC?

I was told that spike does.

TV always needs a back story, so of course fighters who seem bland are at a disadvantage regardless of their actual fighting abilities.

For the 1st 3 seasons Dana White and others (some fighters I know for sure) scouted the smaller shows and just word of mouth, they asked some of the esablished fighters (and champs) about guys they've trained with or fought that had alot of potential, in some cases they went after the big names from other country's (Michael Bisping was mopping up England when he got a call to be on the show), the 4th season Dana and Joe Silva called back alot of past talent to see if they'd be interested, the 5th season which probably being taped as we speak they went around the country and held additions for lightweight fighters american idol style.
