The story begins with Joseph, son of Jacob, being sold into slavery by his brothers. He ascends to be ruler of Egypt, 2nd only to Pharaoh, and spares his father and brothers from extinction by famine (Genesis chapters 37-50).
Afterwards there arises a Pharaoh, "who knew not Joseph".
The Israelites are cruelly oppressed and enslaved. Afterwards God raises up Moses and sends him to Pharaoh with the demand "Let My people go!"
Pharaoh says no. 10 plagues later, he is persuaded. The Israelites plunder the Egyptians and depart. Pharaoh has second thoughts. God leads the Israelites through the Red Sea. Pharaoh and his army follow, and are all drowned. After numerous acts of rebellion, the Israelites are prevented from entering into the land God promised to them, and forced to wander in the wilderness 40 years, until all but 2 of the original escapees are left. God then leads them into the promised land of Canaan under the leadership of Joshua. If you are looking for details, read the Books of Exodus and Numbers; also further details in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.

Biblically speaking the hebrew people came from one family. Abraham is the father of the Jewish people. Eventually Joseph a "son of Abrahma" was sold into slavery by his brothers who were shepherds. He ended up in egypt as a slave. In a long story he came into favor with the egyptian king or offcial. Once his family was broke and destitute they came to egypt to ask for help from the goverment and Joseph was the one they had to ask cause he was in power in the government by that time. He recognized them and they eventually moved to egypt to be with him. The whole extended family moved there. Fast foward many, many hundreds of years and the hebrew community was starting to out number the egyptian community. So they made them slaves. You know the rest. Fastforward more hundreds of years they demanded to be free. With the help of God (Moses led by God) they became free from Egyptian slavery. They moved on to find a land for themselves.(promised land)

They moved to Egypt. They moved from Egypt. Some were already in Egypt. Some were born in Egypt. Some died in Egypt. Some stayed in Egypt. Some are still in Egypt...

All I remember is that it says they went to Egypt.
They were put into slavery.
They were set free after the ten plagues.
Moses parted a sea, let the Jews through, then unleashed the deluge on the pharaoh and his army.
They went to Mt. Sinai.
I think that's all.
