I am getting married outdoors the last weekend in April. In case of chilly weather my bridesmaid asked me what she could wear with her dress. I don't think a little shaw would cut it. And she hasn't gotten a dress yet, but my color is tan/neutral/or very light brown. I don't really want one of those "matching jackets" that come with some dresses, but I feel like I have no other choice! Any suggestions?

Well, for what it's worth, my bridesmaids had matching shawls, and I had on a cream-colored sweater coat that just happened to match the color of my wedding gown, that I had had for years! It rained on my wedding day, so the sweater coat looked elegant and kept me warm, too! In fact, when I got my snapshots developed at Wal-Mart, the guy running the photo machine said, 'Oh, are you the bride that wore that sweater coat? It looks really striking-did it come with the dress?" While I don't know if sweater coats would necessarily work with bridesmaid dresses that aren't white, they could wear white shawls or perhaps shawls in the same color as their dresses.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of those matching jackets. The style looks very dated to me. Honestly, I think shawls would be the best bet. They are modern, yet classic and you can find them in a wide variety and styles. Look for shawls that can be custom made to fit your wedding and the bridesmaid dresses. If the shawls are a bit expensive for the girls, consider giving them as a gift for you bridal party. Go to TheKnot.com, they have so great ideas on there for bridal party fashion. Good Luck and Happy Planning.

I personally don't like the look of jackets, but I'm sure you could find a nice looking shawl or wrap that would match the bridesmaid's dresses and also keep them warm.

congrats on the wedding. Well some dresses at Davids Bridal sell matching "shaws" that you drape over your shoulders that would keep your bridesmaids warmer. They look nice too. My wedding is in may so hopefully it will be warm, and not raining. Good luck.

instead of a matching wrap, what about a dark brown or even a jade or sapphire colored wrap or a one of those small cropped jackets

If it is really cold, one of those little fur capelets would look great, especially if you are wearing one, too.
