It's called a CARDINAL, and it does not live in Canada. It passes through on a migration path, and only resides here temporarily.

Could you be more specific about the beak and size of the bird. Sounds like a cardinal. Check out www.hww.ca "Hinterland's Who's Who" its run by the goverment and other agencies and profiles the majority of forest creatures.

It could be a Pine Grosbeak or a Red Crossbill. Look at these pictures and see if either fits the bill:

These are both birds found in winter in Canada.

Could be a rose breasted grossbeak!! (spelling). But they have a lot of black on them too. Robins eat berries, but only in the Spring will you see them in the trees eating berries, like in a holly tree.
