Ok I've never had one, but I've placed plenty in patients mouths. Usually there is no other option when one is placed, but you can always ask your dentist. They are both irritating and annoying and take time to get used to. Your tongue can get a little sore but you do learn to keep your tongue back, which is what the appliance is suppose to do. Much like braces, just one more thing to get used too. Beauty is hard work to achieve sometimes. Just give it time, it'll be over before you know it. Good luck!

That is kind of an old fashioned approach to preventive dentistry and I also think, rather barbaric though your dentist has information about you that none of us is privvy to.

I can't imagine what a tongue thrust can do that a mouth guard or upper guard can not do as well and less intrusively.

Second opinion, definitely.

It will be annoying AND irritating and I would get not one but two (possibly more opinions than that if I could) before getting one. Most of the time there is something that can be done alternatively. Poor thing!!!
