I've only had him since Friday night and this only started yesterday. He's only 9 weeks old, hasn't been outside and hasn't had his injections yet but I'm sure it isn't kennel cough.
Any ideas what this may be?
Thanks.

He has been wormed so I don't think that's a problem but he came from a proper pedigree breeder (yes i know that kennel cough is still definitely a possibility). We have already scheduled a vets appointment next Tuesday for their injections is that too long to wait?

Kennel cough usually takes a couple of days to manifest itself. So if your puppy seemed fine when you got him that didn't mean that he didn't have kennel cough. Don't worry though. It is something pretty common in dogs that come from a breeder, pet store, or an animal shelter. (A lot of dogs that come from a shelter catch kennel cough.)

If what the pup is doing sounds like a cross between a cough and a bark most likely that is what it is. I would call my vet and make an appointment. The vet will probably just give you some antibiotics and it should clear up within a week.

Hope this helps!

I would not wait until next Tuesday for your dog to be seen by his vet, I would schedule an appointment right away. I would see what the vet says, if it is kennel cough your vet will let you know and dispense meds as he/she sees fit. After your visit with the vet I would call the breeder and let her know that your pup is sick. Good Luck.

How can you be sure that it isn't kennel cough? Psychic? Not to be mean but, it is really difficult to prevent. Since it is such a young pup I would immediately call the vet and make an appointment. The cough could be a sign of anything! Anything!

My dog coughed like that and it turned out he had "Valley Fever". He was about 1 year old though and you have a baby on your hands. I would suggest taking him to the vet and checking it out. He may grow weak faster being a puppy so you don't want to wait too long. Good luck and best wishes.

Find out now what the cough is.
If you read the label on any vaccine, it says that it should only be given to healthy animals. You probably should put off the vaccines until the pup is over this.
