The clear braces actually do get a yellow tinge to them. The regular braces are silver in color and still do not look bad. The big thing for her is that there are little rubber bands that go around each bracket (per tooth) and she can change the color on those each month. That's the fun part for some teens. Even if she does go with the clear, she can have clear rubber bands or ones with color.

well, from what i know, colour braces are for free, and clear ones are likely to be at a price. retainers are the first stage of getting braces, which consist of two parts: one for the top of your mouth and another for the bottom of your mouth (it can be removed when eating). you may only have retainers and then braces after them which then means you will have to get an appointment to an orthodontist and get these metal squares stuck to each and everyone of your teeth (depending on whether you are having your braces for only your top teeth, your bottom teeth or both). after that a metal wire is placed in the middle of each metal square, around all your teeth, and then colour elastic bands are tied round the squares to secure the wire in place. It will hurt for the first 3 days (especially) during eating and just not being used to it, but then gradually the pain will disappear. Also when the elastic bands are secured the doctor will tighten the wire making your whole jaw ache badly, but then again, it will disappear eventually (the pain). You will probably have braces for 2+ years (standard time).

The brackets are either stainless steel or clear porcelain. If she's not self-conscious or in pageants or plays the stainless steel will be fine.
If you are talking about the o-ties (that go on the bracket to hold the wire in). The clear stain easily, as do most of the pastel colors.
They change the o-ties every month. So she'll have plenty of opportunity to try many different color combinations.

She needs to decide that on her own. She is the one who will have to walk around with them. Me personally I preferred the regular old time braces. My brother had clear, and it always looked like he had food in them, even after he brushed.

Don't get clear, if she doesn't look after them properly, it'll look nasty. I'd just get the normal ones, silver or chrome or something.
