I am constantly brushing him but its his under belly that gets really matted because it gets so long. I just figured it would be best to give him a little trim with a good set of clippers. This way its not bothering him.

How about taking him to a good groomer. There are soooo many products that take care of this problem -- why bald your kitty (especially in the winter)?

I work for a pet store and I would suggest first buying these bath wipes for the cat and brushing out the knots...they have a conditioning set that detangles, then use a wire grooming comb the brush out the loose fur and knots...... I have never really seen a clipper set in my store, our grooming salon usually uses the dog clippers. The best one we have is called Wahl Pro Series Cord/Cordless Dog Clipper....its also good that's its wireless since its so hard to get cats to sit still, you should also consider buying "Calmative Supplement" that will help keep the cat a bit calm while the buzzing is going on. Hope this answered helped :)

I would recommend that you let a professional groomer groom your cat and clean up the matted areas. If you are not experienced at using a clipper you can potentially hurt your cat. A cat has extremely sensitive skin and if you nik it it can tear like paper. I would strongly recommend you seek out a good groomer or if there are none in your area, ask your vets office if the can just take care of the matted areas for you. Good Luck.
