My mom thinks that black hair can be referred to brunette hair. And I was like "No mom, brown hair is called brunette hair." And she was like "No, when a person with black hair walks down the street you would say that girl has brunette hair." I said "No you would say she has black hair. It's it's seperate catagory." She said "No, there are only Brunettes, redheads and blondes." I said "No! Brunette, black, redhead, and blonde!"

Who's right?
me or my mom??

People, people, people, I know a lot of people with jet black hair and it's natural. And I wouldn't call them brunettes.
In school were you taught that brown and black were the same? No they were seperate colors. Brown is brown. And black is black.

No offense but your mom is right. You have blondes, redheads and brunettes. You know those t-shirts that say "whichever hair color" does it better? Things like that only come with three choices: blondes, redheads, & brunettes. Black hair color can't be catagorized by itself. It couldn't say "blacks do it better" because that would have a very different meaning and it would be racial. Brunette means having a dark tone or color. Black would definetly be considered brunette.

Your mom is right. There are only three categories: blonde, brunette and redheads. People with ''black'' hair would be considered brunettes. Even though, technically, black hair doesn't exist unless it's dyed. If you have naturally ''black'' hair, it's actually considered dark brown.

Sorry, but your mom won this time.

I have heard it said that there is no such thing as truly "black" hair, just extremely dark brown hair. If you were to bleach someone's hair that looked black, it would turn out orange, showing a great deal of red coloring in the original hair, like brown, so it can't actually be black, can it? There is an actual pigment to the hair, just like skin.......there are people with dark skin, but no one is truly "black-black". I think you'll find that very few things in life are truly "black", simply a very dark blue, brown, or green. Check out art sometime......they almost never use true black, even for shadows.

changes are oftentimes better interior peoples than between peoples. hence, it is not all that unusual as an Irish individual who you have dark brown, even curly hair mutually as your loved ones seem distinctive with easy brown hair and perhaps another features too. Many Irish human beings even have dark blond hair and brown eyes to boot to blue-gray eyes, and a straightforward sort of them have reddish hair of a few style. yet, if one seems at human beings in international locations the place the countless closer genetic family members of the Irish stay like Iceland, Norway, Finland, Latvia and Poland one sees those with those comparable combinations of pigmentation, hair colour and eye colour too. There are easy and dark Norwegians, easy and dark Poles, or maybe some Finns with blue-gray eyes or reddish hair and so on.

Hun....you are right...your mother is wrong. Brunette is a shade of brown in which you can see red tones. Easily put.....Black is the presence of all colors. This is how it was explained and taught in my cosmetology classes years ago. Have fund debating your mom.....But if you must call or go by the local cosmetology school with your mother in tow and ask one of the instructors. I am sure that they would explain it, and even show her a chart of it.

Mom rules: I've always believed/understood that those with black hair were also called brunettes, as in dark-haired, though it does seem like they should have their own category/term.

I agreed with you until...
Webster says:
Main Entry: 1bru·net
Variant(s): or bru·nette /brü-'net/
Function: noun
: a person having brown or black hair and often a relatively dark complexion -- spelled brunet when used of a boy or man and usually brunette when used of a girl or woman

sorry!

i would have to say your mother is right on this one. if you look closely to someone you think might have black hair, look at how the light hits the hair you will see that it is a dark heavy brown. asians are most likely the only people who will be born with black hair.
