You need a stool sample, so they can check for eggs and larvae. No way to do it at home.

Treatment is easy. Go to the chemist and get a thread worm (pin worm) treatment. Most now days are a one dose affair. Then take off the sheets, any clothing that she had been wearing and wash in HOT water, and tumble dry hot, or sun dry. Don't let her scratch there because that's how the worms transfer the eggs back to her mouth and start the cycle again. Firm fitting underwear, changed often will help. As to where she got them from. The eggs are sticky and can be transferred from child to child if proper hygiene isn't followed (washing hands after going to the toilet, or before eating, etc), but they can hang around in dirt, dust and in bedding and clothing (that's the reason for the hot wash). Sometimes your family pet might have worms, which can be passed on, that's why treating them regularly is a good idea too. This is a fairly common occurrence, so get on top of it and stay vigilant. For a natural remedy you can try grated carrot with a teaspoon of ground up pumpkin seeds (a natural vermifuge), and give that to her once every second day till the symptoms stop.

you really don't need to take her to the doctors unless of course it makes you feel better. worms are very contagious and it is easy to reinfect yourself and other people, worms do not lay eggs inside of the body, they lay their eggs around the outside of the anus, which then hatch and it is a vicious circle, the chemist will give you a one dose tablet for her to take in the meantime wash all bedding, keep her from scratching her bum, (fingers go to her mouth, re-infected!), but the one dose should do the job.
My daughter started uni last year and rang up mortified within the first week or so, and she went to the chemist and got one tablet and they were gone! they are more common than you would like to think but not talked about, check if anybody else in the house has the symptoms too. hope this helps.

I think the most common type of worm is the "Threadworm". As it's name implies, it looks like a tiny piece of thread. It originates from the anus & usually spreads to the vagina. Can be easily cured with a tablet or two from the Doctor's.

worms are so common and nothing to be embarrasseed about. its a stigma society has with things like worms, nits etc. one tablet will do the trick , but everyone in the house has to be treated at the same time to prevent re infection which is really easy.

Is she scratching her bottom a lot, especially at night?

My mum used to give me and brother worm medicine at the first sign of an itch. You can stuff from your pharamacist but its very unpleasent. The whole family should take it too.

I am only assuming you are referring to ring worms.

The doctor will probably prescribe mebendazole. The other members of your household will also need to be treated, and you should also wash your hands and scrub your nails before eating and after each visit to the lavatory, and wash the anal area in the morning to get rid of any eggs deposited during the night.

Just incidentally, 'ringworm' is NOT a type of worm!

Take your daughter to the Doc. I am sure that this is something easily treated....many young kids get it, it's one of those things like headlice. Not pleasant, but easily treatable.

If you think she has worms wait till she is alseep and then go in with a flashlight and tape. Put the tape on her anal area and pull it off then check it. If she has worms you will see them on the tape.

I'm a nurse. Yes you should take her in. I wish you gave information on her symptoms. It could be almost anything, she should be seen. Take care.
