Well, I'm a Christian and have never heard that.

That must be the "Christians" that also think that everything we do is already predetermined.

Kinda knocks at the free will concept that I have come to learn about and understand from the Bible.

Hello, can't speak for all christians but I will say that there are many scriptures that back the idea that time belongs to God below are a couple; if time belongs to God then when we are born and when we leave this earth is up to him he alone knows the times and place.

Matthew 24:36 (New International Version)
36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 (New International Version)
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Acts 17:26
From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.

These days it's the doctors and parents that choose alot of the birthdays. Mothers may have job conflicts, doctors may have medical preferences that dictate when to induce a birth. So often, anymore, I hear pregnant friends say exactly which day their children will be born.
Likewise, deaths are becoming more controlled. Take Oregon as an example with assisted death. Various governments in America also choose death days through executions. G. W. Bush holding the modern record for most executions on his watch as governor.
Maybe this God has some say in these human decisions, but all the Christians on here are always saying he gave us free will, so by their own assertion that is not likely the case. Therefore, If God was in charge of choosing days for births and deaths, he is reassigning that power to humanity.

Or it could just be pure chance, which seems far more likely to me.

I have not heard Christians say any such thing. However, now that you mention it, there are cases in the Bible where this seems to happen, like when God tells Abram when Isaac will be born (Genesis 17:21), Elisha tells the Shunamite woman when she will have a son (2 Kings 4:16), and God tells Moses when Aaron will die (Num 20:23-29), God adds 15 years to Hezekiah's life (2Kings 20). God also raises up various people for specific mission, sending them to be born at the time they are needed, like Samson, Samuel, Jeremiah, John the Baptist, and of course Jesus.

And no soul can die except by Allah's leave, - a decree with a fixed term. And whoever desires the reward of the present world, We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter, We will give him thereof; and We will surely reward the grateful.

He it is Who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clot; then He brings you forth as a child; then He lets you grow, so that you attain your full strength; and afterward become old - though some among you are caused to die before - and that you may reach a term appointed and that you may learn wisdom.

(Ecc 3:1) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

(Ecc 3:2) A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

(Ecc 3:3) A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

(Ecc 3:4) A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

(Ecc 3:5) A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

(Ecc 3:6) A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

(Ecc 3:7) A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

Maybe you think that when someone says that it was God's will that so and so died that you assume they believe it was pre determined when they were going to die.
