You can't beat insomnia, it is by far and away the best dance track i've ever heard!

Greasy insomnia, please release me and let me make mad love on the heath, tearing off tights with my teeth

It sounds like he has his days and nights mixed up. He needs to stay awake during the day time and go to bed the same time every night and wake up the same time every morning. This will help turn his body and mind around. Has your husband seen a doctor for his insomnia? Insomnia can be caused by so many things, like stress and other physical problems as well. He really should be seen by a doctor as well and get checked out. He may have an underlying physical problem that neither one of you realize. Does your husband take any medications? Or drink a lot of caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea or soda? Caffeine bothers many people, especially after 5 or 6 at night. Perhaps he should watch his caffeine intake as well. Does your husband smoke? Sometimes a cig before bed causes people not to sleep. All these possibilities plus a good check up is in order. If nothing is physically wrong, then the first above paragraph should help you both. In the meantime, you need to buy yourself a pair of inexpensive foam ear plugs. This way you won't hear him do his loud talking or loud sighing. However this may not be too practical since you have two small children. You decide that one. Or maybe you could give him some "ground rules". Tell him to come to bed with you when he is sleepy and tired enough to get some rest. Otherwise he is to stay in the livingroom and watch t.v. or something. That way you can get your rest and he won't bother you. Good luck to you and I hope the two of you feel much better soon!

Take everything out of your bedroom that is going to distract you i.e tv.

Make your bedroom as calming as possible, soft lighting etc

Try not to work yourself up when you can't get to sleep,

Get up and walk about, don't just lie there for ages.

Read a book with a nice cup of Horlicks.

Take some herbal tablets like KALMS...i wouldn't recommend the medicated stuff, leaves you feeling groggy in the morning

Have a nice warm bath.

I hope this helps, there is nothing more frustrating than not being able to sleep.

I went to a doctor for this very reason. I was told to not do anything in my bed such as read, write, or watch television. Bed is only supposed to be a place of sleep. Naps at any point of the day are not allowed. Also, an hour before bed all television and radio are to be turned off. No reading or anything to stimulate the brain. It should be an extremely relaxing time.

... That's what they told me atleast. Maybe it will work for you. I just couldn't stick to it.

You haven't said if you tried anything.
My husband said swimming usually got him off really well besides s e x.
But really about 2 hours before you go to bed don't do anything that stimulates your brain e.g get off the computer, don't watch action packed films just really boring ones.
Stay away from caffeinated drinks
.You can try horlicks or hot milky drinks as these tend to have a comforting smell and taste,a nice warm bath, switch off the cellphone.Read a boring book.Stop thinking about everything and just think I will sleep now and gaze into a nice starry sky.Hope it helps

I've had it for years, that's why I'm sat here at 11.40pm doing this,I've tried everything from not having coffee to taking baths to reading, taking herbal stuff,lavender..nothing works.
i went to the docs to see if they could do something..insomnia isn't really a medical condition she told me,its all in your mind,go home and read a book...i had to laugh at her,i said what do you think I'm doing here,I've no slept for more than 4 hours a night in 3 years and your telling me to read a book,...like i hadn't already tried that.i told her if she had look after 6 kids on a few hours sleep, she`d soon make it a medical condition..
in the end i got so tired and i ordered some 1mg sleeping tablets on line, its just enough to knock me out for a few hours, then the rest is natural sleep.

You can't force sleep. Read a book and remain as still as possible. If you're brain can't rest at least let your body.
Try a warm bath.
In a serious case I find melotonin helps. It's an over the counter natural sleep hormone.

One of the bigest causes of insomnia is a persons diet. mainly caffein. Drop the coffee and sodas, especialy afternoon and you should see a diference. Another thing that helps alot is exersize even though most of us cringe at the thought. Reading also helps to relax the body and brain and helps you to shut down at night.

Stop drinking/eating caffeine. I used to have the worst kind of insomnia and when I stopped the caffeine it went away.

Caffeine kills a chemical in your brain that induces sleep. Your body will reproduce this chemical if you stop drinking caffeine for a week or so

Try putting a lavender wheat bag in your pillow case or spraying your pillow with lavender or avon do a sleep balm and that's quite good for a while until you get use to it.

no caffeine after 5 pm

nothing to eat after 5 pm

excercise half an hour every day - even just walking

shut the mind off like a switch - throw the garbage of the day out for the eight hours or so that you dedicate to sleep
