No, but they will attract Indian meal moths, which feed on the bird seed. They are very small moths that might be mistaken for mosquitoes. The way to get rid of them is to clean the cage frequently, and keep extra seed in a glass or metal container so moths can't get in. Don't use insecticides arounds your birds, though -- or you will have dead birds.

I'm pretty sure that mosquitos are attracted by either the scent of sweat or carbon dioxide *the stuff we breath out* and I cannot for the life of me figure how parakeets and their food would attract any more mosquitos that your average person. I don't even know if most mosquitos can bite through to a bird's skin, and the bird seed/pellet deffinantly wouldn't make a diffference.

How often do you change the water dish? Standing water is where they breed, and it only takes a matter of days to go from egg to adult mosquito. That might be your problem, but I dunno.

Actually I do not think it is either, I think maybe their water bowl might be doing it, if you find that it is try giving your birds a rabbit waterer to drink from. One other thing you can do is keep your food in the fridge, that keeps bugs like worms and moths from laying eggs in your food. Good luck, I hope this helps you out. Claire
